October 10, 2014 was a momentous day: we received the first delivery of Urdu-English New Testaments! This is all because of your kind support that enables us to fulfill the Great Commission here in Pakistan. We are so thankful.
Music Teachers Making a Difference
The very next day we joined the inauguration ceremony of a music teacher association to give some of these newly published Scriptures to the music teachers. Surprised by the unique Scriptures containing two languages, more than 40 music teachers received the New Testaments. The teachers expressed deep gratitude for the free Scriptures so they can grow spiritually.
One teacher told us he’s been using two separate Bibles—one in Urdu and another in English—but he’s happy to have them both in one! Now he can carry just one Bible with him every day to grow in his faith, and to share the New Testaments with other teachers and students in his school.
The Best Textbook for Schools
Just one week after the first delivery of Urdu-English New Testaments, the principal of a middle school asked if we could come with Scriptures for his teachers and students. We explained how this dual-language Book will help them improve their English language proficiency. And when they read the Book regularly, they will ultimately get to know the Saviour.
One teacher said, “I have never read the Bible before, but after receiving this New Testament, I will start to do regular Scripture studies.”
We’re focusing on teachers because they’re our potential partners to spread the Good News of the gospel throughout their spheres of influence.
Mr. N, the principal of an academy, is a God-fearing man who is passionate about seeing students come to Christ. He invited us to share the gospel through God’s Word with the students. Thankful for their New Testaments, the students promised to read God’s Word every day to discover more about Jesus and His plan for their life.
Equipping Pastors & Church Planters
Pastor S is one of many Pakistani pastors in the National Gospel Assemblies, a grassroots level church-planting initiative. These pastors are prospective strategic partners because they visit people in their homes and share the gospel with individuals, families and larger unreached people groups.
Pastor Q actively works among the millennials in his community. These professional and energetic young men and women are actively playing their part to prepare people for the Kingdom of God. In spite of his disability, Q is committed to preaching the gospel and being a living testimony for Jesus.
Forty-eight men and women—including three pastors—received a copy of God’s Word so they can go out with the Scriptures in their hands and the Good News on their lips.
A Precious Commodity in the Community
A Christian hospital has been serving Pakistan since 1947. We gave over 200 copies of New Testaments to doctors, nurses, students and clerical staff; they were so excited that they pleaded with us for more copies for their family and friends.
A medical director stood up and told everyone how thankful he is to have both Urdu and English in one Book so he can now read both languages together when he studies God’s Word.
Evangelist Ms. N works in the Cross Colony, a slum urban area where people are living in poverty—but are growing in Christ! Ms. N has led more than 40 men and women to Christ. But these new believers need to grow in their faith and knowledge of Jesus through God’s Word. When we gave out 40 New Testaments in Cross Colony, they immediately began reading and praising God for changing their lives!
With a population exceeding 180 million, Pakistan is a predominantly Muslim nation that needs God’s Word to infiltrate into every corner of society. Urdu and English are the two official languages of Pakistan, so producing and strategically distributing Urdu-English New Testaments is an effective way to reach men and women, boys and girls of all ages and statuses.
God’s Word is already redeeming hearts, and we are eager to see what these new Urdu-English Scriptures will accomplish in Pakistan this year!
The Development Communication Association (DCA) partners with us to share the Good News with God’s Word in Pakistan through strategic connections with community leaders and influencers—like teachers, principals, pastors, church planters, doctors and passionate young people—who can spread the gospel throughout their spheres of influence.
Our ministry began a partnership with DCA when its president visited us two years ago. DCA’s approach to ministry, like supporting pastors and evangelism in a difficult country, fit well with our vision for international ministry.
